NATIONAL COLLEGIATE SOILS CONTEST RULES
On a national level, collegiate soil judging is organized by the Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES) within the American Society of Agronomy. The official rules for the National Collegiate Soils Contest were revised and accepted in September 2008.
SOIL SURVEY OF MARION AND MONONGALIA COUNTIES, WV
All practice and contest sites will be located in Marion and Monongalia Counties, within a few miles of Morgantown, WV. Most soils will be typical of the landscapes of the Central Allegheny Plateau (MLRA 126). A PDF copy of the local soil survey report is available from USDA-NRCS Soil Data Mart. If you would like a printed copy of the Soil Survey of Marion and Monongalia Counties, please contact Jim Thompson.
REPRESENTATIVE SOIL SERIES
The following are soil series commonly found on landscapes of north-central West Virginia. These series are representative of the horizon sequences and morphological properties that will be observed during the 2012 National Collegiate Soils Contest.
